Eastern Africa Universities Mathematics Programme (EAUMP)
The main activities supported by the programme are:
Training of postgraduate at two levels PhD and M. Sc.
Literature and equipment
Workshops / Schools
Staff exchange in the region
South – North visits
Coordinators and advisory committee meetings
This is one of the main activities of EAUMP targeting to reduce critical shortage of staff in the participating universities especially on the area of pure mathematics and on the new areas of mathematics.
Each node had on training at least three PhD students per year. Usually the period of PhD training is three years. All PhD students registered at their home universities and they are on sandwich programme. In year 2017 EAUMP had 15 PhD students on training with 3 students per node. Expecting 3 PhD students to graduate in three years then to enroll another new three PhD students in each node.
In each year at least two MSc students per node are on training. The period of training for M.Sc. is normally two years. Most of M.Sc. students are registered and trained at their local universities. Some of the students are trained outside their home universities within the region depending on the availability of experts and specialization.
EAUMP usually organize one conference for every three years. Conference already organized are;
First Conference was organized at University of Nairobi in 2002
Second Conference was organized in Tanzania at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology, Arusha, Tanzania from 22nd to the 25th of August 2012.
Third Conference was organized in Kampala at Makerere University from 26th to 28th October 2016
